We’re excited to mark the first anniversary of the Riga Grappling Club—a year filled with new challenges, achievements, and, most importantly, the joy of a job well done. As we reflect on our journey, we want to share the highlights of our progress and the strides we’ve made.

Improving Our Facilities

Over the past year, we’ve invested significant effort into enhancing both our training processes and equipment. This summer, we introduced an additional training area, allowing athletes to train independently alongside group sessions. This space has been a valuable asset, not only for our athletes but also for parents who take advantage of the time while their children train.

New Training Groups and Opportunities

In April, we launched a morning group tailored for beginners, many of whom have advanced rapidly and are now training across multiple groups and preparing for competitions. This progress is a source of pride and joy for us.

We also expanded our training schedule to include judo sessions twice a week. We’re thrilled to have Mārtiņš Taube, a black belt in judo and purple belt in BJJ, join our coaching staff. This addition addresses BJJ's traditional weakness in standing combat, offering a comprehensive approach to our training. For more details, check out the training groups section on our website.

Our Competitive Debut

September marked our debut in competitive grappling at the AJP Tour Latvia, where we secured 2nd place in the overall team rankings. While most of our members train as hobbyists, we’re proud of those who embraced the challenge and showcased their skills.

Enhancing Training with Technology

We’re excited to announce the upcoming launch of a video surveillance system. This new tool will enhance safety and provide athletes with the ability to review their training sessions and techniques. This will help identify and correct errors more effectively and analyze technical elements in greater detail.

Growing Together

One of the most rewarding aspects of our first year has been the significant growth in participation. Our membership has more than doubled, with increased numbers across all groups. This growth is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our community.

Celebrating Our Achievements

To celebrate our first anniversary, we held a fun training session with many well-deserved promotions. The event was a great success, with students achieving new ranks: two brown belts, five purple belts, and four blue belts. After the training, we enjoyed a nice gathering with a Kahoot game and some delicious food and great time together.

The Heart of Our Club

While numbers and achievements are important, the true measure of our success lies in the atmosphere we’ve created. The friendly, supportive training environment has always been a cornerstone of the Riga Grappling Club’s mission, and it’s gratifying to see it thrive.

For those who are considering joining us, we extend a warm invitation to experience our club.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Here’s to many more successful years ahead!
